Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), is a well-known herbaceous plant, that has been widely used as a flavoring agent and herbal medicine for centuries.
Indians and Chinese are believed to have produced ginger as a tonic root for over 5000 years. Originally from Asia, the most common custom usage of ginger was as a flavoring agent in its various form and this could include fresh, dried, pickled, powdered and preserved and, more interestingly, as a tonic root to treat many ailments for its medicinal benefits.
The ginger rhizome has traditionally been applied against diseases such as cholera, cold, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain, lumbago, toothache, hemorrhage, hypertension, or the chronic inflammatory disease rheumatoid arthritis
